ABAC’s annual golf tournament will be held on Sept. 27.

The 19th Annual School of Agriculture and Natural Resources (SANR) Classic golf tournament will be at ABAC’s Forest Lakes Golf Club. The first flight will begin at 8 a.m. and the second flight at 1 p.m.

The main purpose of the golf tournament is to raise money for the students of ABAC. The proceeds from the tournament support scholarships for students in the SANR. The proceeds will also support faculty and staff development and various other student academic activities.

The tournament is hosted by the ABAC Agriculture and Natural Resources Alumni Council and the SANR. The tournament coordinator, Vonda Fenn, says that it is a group effort. “The SANR Alumni Council, along with the support of the staff of the school are behind the tournament,” Fenn said, “The staff at Forest Lakes along with our faculty and students make sure that the course is ready.”

There are several companies that sponsor and/or play in the tournament every year. “We are in the process of contacting them now and of course, we are always looking for new players and sponsors,” Fenn said.

There are different levels to the sponsorships for the tournament, including the highest level, Stallion Level, which includes eight players in the tournament and is worth $5,000. The lowest level, Century Level, is only worth $100. For the first time, a new level called the Diamond Scholarship was added and is worth $2,500.

The tournament is open to the first 100 golfers who register and will be a four-person scramble with a shotgun start. The entry fee starts at $125 per person or a $500 entry fee for each four-person team that chooses to play. This includes lunch, green fees, a cart and a golf shirt.

Not only will there be the tournament, but the annual ball drop will take place as well. Players can purchase golf balls for a small fee. Every ball purchased will be placed in the bucket of a frontend loader and dropped onto the putting green. Whichever ball rolls closest to/or drops into a pre-selected hole will be the winner. The grand prize is a value equal to 50 percent of the numbered golf balls sold. Balls can be purchased for one golf ball for $5, three for $10, six for $20, 12 for $40, 18 for $60, 24 for $80 or 30 for $100.

Anyone is able to register for the tournament and ball drop and to do so, may contact Vonda Fenn at 229-391-5067 or email her at vfenn@abac.edu. You can also register online at http://www.abac.edu/academics/sanr-classic/.
