ABAC president Dr. Tracy Brundage announced Oct. 3, 2023, that ABAC would be joining the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), giving more opportunities for athletic scholarships and creating four-year sports programs.  ABAC has been looking to find a men’s basketball coach.

The ABAC Gressette Gym is closed until Feb. 2, as they prepare the gym for basketball season in the fall semester. Many different changes have been made, such as new logos, with more changes to come.

Charles Wimberly, Athletic Director at ABAC, was announced as the women’s basketball coach last May.

Calvin Sinkfield was recently announced as the new men’s basketball coach in an ABAC press release. Sinkfield brings a lot of experience to the team, as he has taken on many challenges throughout his career.

ABAC said in a press release that he was named “NJCAA Division III Region XVII Coach of the Year for the 2017-2018 season.” In that same press release, Sinkfield talked about already starting the progress of recruitment.

There are many bylaws to be followed and preparations to be made, but discussions are already being held to assess the potential bylaws that would help ABAC progress.

As Calvin Sinkfield and Charles Wimberly help bring back the basketball culture at ABAC, there will be many challenges to overcome. But with support from ABAC faculty and students and the Tifton community, basketball could become a major part of the culture of both communities as it once was.
