Beloved Biology Professor Dies

May 29, 2021, ABAC Professor Dr. Marvin Holtz passed away. Dr. Holtz received his Bachelor’s in Biology from Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas, his Master’s from Niagra University in Niagara County, New York, and his Ph.D. in Science Education from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. He also taught at several institutions throughout his career including Tri-County Community College, Andrew College, Cumberland University, and ABAC.

Dr. Holtz began working at ABAC in the Fall semester of 2001. He started off as an Assistant Professor and was granted tenure in 2006. For 20 years, Dr. Holtz had been educating the students of ABAC and he touched the hearts of many. He was also a very knowledgeable man and taught classes such as Anatomy & Physiology, Nutrition, Biological Research Methods, Medical Terminology, and Senior Seminars.

He worked endlessly to advise and guide students in the science and mathematics departments. Dr. Holtz also helped create curriculum-related policies that are still in place today. Many students and teachers will greatly miss Dr. Holtz.

Dr. Beth Thorton of the biology department says that she feels blessed to have known and worked with Dr. Holtz. She also says that he was always committed to his work and was always happy to help out whenever and wherever he could.

The passing of Dr. Marvin Holtz was a shock to the faculty, staff, and students of ABAC. He will truly be missed by all the hearts he touched.
