Angelia Simmons, a native of Sylvester, GA, owns a business catering to skin care, offering products such as facial and body oils, bath soaks, body butters, emulsified body butters, lotions, beard shampoo bars, gift bags, and gift baskets. She makes all her products from scratch.

Located on 126 1st Street, DivineSkinSOS has been in Tifton since 2023, but she started the journey in 2021. It started when Simmons gave a gift basket to her wedding guests. In the baskets there were soaps, candles, Biscoff cookies, and essential oils that she’d ordered.

“I wanted to give people something that they would actually use,” Simmons said.

Simmons was then asked after the wedding if she had a website and where they could get more information regarding the items in the gift basket, as they were pleased with what they received. Simmons said, “I fought it for 18 months, and then I decided to do it as a hobby. I would only do it for special people in my life: my mom, best friend, and my mother-in-law. I would do it for Mother’s Day, Christmas, and for their birthdays and it went from being a hobby to a business. But starting a business isn’t easy. Learning and adapting to what needs to be done to run a business takes time.

Simmons said, “Trying to figure out how to be fair to the customer and myself, so that I won’t go out of business underselling, learning everything you need—because that is a process.”

When people walk in, Simmons said, “I hope they walk in and say it smells good, and its warm and inviting.” Creating an atmosphere for people to come in, as she mentioned, makes people feel invited into a place where they can be comfortable.

Our skin is a major investment, and it does a lot for your body. She said, “Your skin is your protective layer from the outside world. Everything that touches you touches your skin. So, it is very important to take care of it.”

Essential products to help your skin take time to make, as Simmons makes them from scratch. She said, “I’m passionate about doing it right. I’m passionate about people understanding the importance of taking care of your biggest organ. I’m passionate about people having a choice, an option to be healthier.”

Simmons looks to serve her customers: “If I wouldn’t let my parents, my children, husband, or grandbaby use it, I wouldn’t sell it to you.”

She will be at a farmers’ market in Adel, GA, on Sept. 13. In addition to that, Simmons will be at Market Night in the courtyard on the last Saturday of Sept., Oct., and Dec.

If you would like to purchase any products, you can visit her website, divineskinbysos.com, or her Facebook page, Divine Skin By SOS. She also takes donations as well.
