ABAC and Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) signed memorandums of understanding facilitating a smooth transition of SRTC student courses to ABAC for students wanting a higher education. The documents laid out how SRTC courses will transfer into ABAC’s degree programs and make it easier to start courses on ABAC’s campus.
In 2013, there were articulation agreements that ended between the schools. SRTC’s President, Jim Glass said, “For twelve years we have not been serving our students like we need to. This is an opportunity for our students to grow.”
“Dr. Brundage and ABAC have been a great friend, and we hit it off from the very first meeting we had,” President Glass continued. “That collaboration continues to grow and get better to continue our school’s relationship.”
The ceremony had a panel of officials from both institutions that spoke and participated in the signing. These officials highlighted what the future has in store for both of the schools merging.
ABAC’s Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Matthew Anderson said, “It’s a great thing for ABAC and the region, those SRTC students will fit in nicely to our programs. We are optimistic our programs will grow as a result and we can continue to serve our students well, new and current.”
There are not currently any articulation agreements for some courses, but they are in the works. Susan Davis, the Dean for Professional Services of SRTC, said “We think it will be great for our students and think it’s a real win for both our institutions.”
“We have a lot of students come to us, and they want to finish their two-year degree, but they want to continue their education,” Davis said. “This is a great partnership for us to be able to provide a pathway for them to continue.
