The second annual Bulls & Broncs Rodeo filled the stands all the way around ABAC’s rodeo arena for a full night of saddle bronc, bareback bronc, and bull riding. The rodeo clown kept everyone on their toes between each run, even riding a boat into the arena.

The rodeo had plenty of options for viewers to see and eat, with many food vendors set up. There also was a raffle hosted with cash prizes announced throughout the night.

Caitlin Lancaster, the president of ABAC’s Rodeo Club, gave some insight into the rodeo’s significance. “ABAC used to have four rodeos every year, and we wanted to bring back at least one rodeo in the fall. The turnout was so great last year that we decided to bring it back again.

Lancaster explained that the ABAC Rodeo Club was instrumental in getting the Rodeo set up to be successful. She said, “We did the contestant parking and check-ins; other members were checking tickets. We also did a hospitality dinner from the Rodeo Club and got to talk to the contestants and learn their stories about their time in the rodeo industry.”

The Rodeo Club also did its first raffle since the re-establishment of the club. “Each winning party got $213,” Lancaster said. “It was $1 a ticket or $5 for 6 tickets. With the ticket prices so low, we sold a lot of tickets, which is a good thing for our club starting back again.”

The turnout was great with an anticipated return for the next rodeo. “Just like the Rodeo Club, we advocate for the sport of rodeo and teach people who have no idea what a rodeo is about,” Lancaster said. “It really just warms my heart that so many people would like to see more rodeos.”

The next rodeo will be in the Spring semester for homecoming, set up by the Alumni Association.
