While trying new things can be nerve-racking, you will see yourself flourish on a college campus when you start making new connections and trying new things.
As nice as it is to stay in your dorm watching YouTube videos and playing Minecraft, regardless of your year, the new school year brings a variety of opportunities to stay active at ABAC.
Thrash Wellness Center
Get physical at the Thrash Wellness Center! This fitness center has about everything you need to get in shape: weightlifting, cardio, or even dynamic stretching exercises. There is a little bit of everything for everyone in Thrash.
Not a big fan of the gym? Don’t forget on hot, sunny days that the pool is open all week long, and it is accessible to all ABAC students. It is the perfect spot to cool down, get a nice tan, or lounge on the deck with your favorite book. The pool is perfect for spending some much-needed rest from studying or as a hangout spot for you and your friends!
Intramural Sports
If you love playing and watching sports or just you enjoy staying active, trying ABAC’s recreational sports is the way to go! While Phase One for the season has already begun, keep an eye out and register for Phase Two, which will be from Sept. 23-Oct. 8. The season will begin on Oct. 16, competing in basketball, coed football, kickball, and pickleball. There are plenty of opportunities for everyone who wants to make friends while having fun and competing against one another!
Join a Club
With a vast variety of clubs that have different interests and majors, why not join at least one? ABAC offers over 60 clubs and organizations to its students. Yes, you read that correctly: over 60! There are so many opportunities when joining a club, and they have so much to offer for students.
Some ABAC clubs include the Campus Activities Board (CAB), Horticulture, Adventures Guild, Women in Business, History and Government, Wildlife Society, and more.
If not a club or organization, ABAC also has Greek Life on campus.
Shawn Burnette, the coordinator of student activities, participated in nine clubs while attending ABAC.
While he doesn’t recommend students to take on the challenge of joining nine clubs, he does suggest that students “Join at least one club because it gets them more involved—comradery, friends, people who are somewhat like-minded in what they like. Maybe do one, maybe do two, maybe do three.”
On-campus Events
From foam parties and open mic night to Thunderslam wrestling and rodeos, there are a lot of upcoming events planned throughout the semester for students to attend and look forward to, so keep an eye out for any announcements, flyers, and emails about future events! This way, if you struggle to get out of your dorm, you can plan to attend events ahead of time.
With all the activities ABAC has to offer, there are plenty of opportunities to get out of your comfort zone and become more involved on campus.
