Dear Filly,
How should I prepare for my first day of class?
Sincerely,
Nervous Nancy
Dear Nervous Nancy,
To prepare for your first day of class, the best thing to do is whatever will make you confident. Get that facial you have always been wanting, buy the cute outfit that you’ve had your eye on—the world is your oyster! When I went to my first day at FSU (Filly State University), I wore the cutest outfit I could find, and my confidence was contagious.
The best way to prevent the pre-class anxiety is to walk your schedule before the first day of classes. Walk it as many times as you can to ease the nerves. Also, double check the dates and times of all classes. If you need a quick look at the campus, flip to page three for a map to guide you!
Another way to prepare is to make sure you have everything you need beforehand. Go ahead and buy cute school supplies and always buy the textbooks ahead of time. To add an extra layer of preparedness, read the syllabus before class to gain a general idea of how the class will be for the next 16 weeks.
Most of all, remember to stay positive. This is a fresh start away from home, so it is most important that you keep an open mindset and be open to new experiences and learning opportunities!
Sincerely,
Filly
Dear Filly,
What should I listen to when I walk to my classes?
Sincerely,
Musical Miranda
Dear Musical Miranda,
The one song I always have on repeat for the first day of school is any early 2000s playlist to make me feel like I’m the star of my own movie. In my world, I am the main character!
One of my favorite songs to feel like this is “Perfect Day” by Hoku. It was featured on “Legally Blonde,” and, every time I listen to it, I feel like I can conquer anything the day may throw at me. Another honorable mention is “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield. Any song that comes from an early 2000s rom-com is a go-to for the first day of classes.
I would also like to recommend some podcasts to listen to on your commute to school or when you’re walking around campus. My favorite right now is “anything goes with emma chamberlain.” Emma’s podcast is such a relaxing listen, and it is like an escape from the world.
If neither of those work for you, invest in an audiobook! Apple Books, Spotify, Amazon, and Audible are my personal favorites, but there are so many different services now. Audiobooks are a good option if you want to read more but cannot find the time to sit down and read.
Happy listening!
Sincerely,
Filly
