Do you love books but have a hard time deciding what to read? Do you want to meet more like-minded people that share your interest in reading? Look no further: Shelf Indulgence, a new book club here at ABAC, is the place for you.

This club came to fruition in January of this year with the help of Baldwin Library’s previous Instructional Services Librarian, Sarah Shelton, and Blair Parris, a library staff member. To establish the club, Sarah and Blair partnered up with the Tifton-Tift County Library to provide library books for the members.

When asked how the club came about at ABAC, Parris said, “We both have experience working in public libraries and wanted to bring community programming into an academic setting. So, over the course of a few months, we sent out an anonymous form to decide how the club was going to function. Our collaboration with the Tifton-Tift County Public Library has brought our idea to life.”

Joining a book club is a great way to find students who share interests, as well as expanding your knowledge on a variety of topics. In this way, Shelf Indulgence is an easy way to make connections on campus while enjoying what you love.

A book club on campus is an interesting variety in campus activities, expanding the library’s social reach. Parris said, “I believe that our book club’s importance is to provide our campus with a free and accessible club to find community with other book lovers.”

The club’s book for October was “Finlay Donovan is Killing It” by Elle Cosimano, a mystery novel about a single mother and her son, a struggling author.

Shelf Indulgence meets once a month, and the next meeting will be on Nov. 6. These meetings include discussions about the previous month’s book and snacks. This is also when the next books are given out. November’s book was decided on being a fantasy book.

If Shelf Indulgence seems like a club you are interested in, stop by the second floor of Branch and see what Shelf Indulgence has to offer. There is something for everyone. If you have any questions, contact Blair Parris at amelia.parris@abac.edu.
