College is built on the foundation of education. For many, that sounds well-expected and boring, and that’s exactly where ABAC’s Campus Activities Board (CAB) comes in to pave the way for fun. Supervised by Shawn Burnette and run by peers and students like you, CAB has yet another map of plans for the 2023-2024 school year.

From the 2022-2023 school year, CAB managed to pull off some memorable, entertaining stunts and spectacles. A few standout examples are the VR Fright-Night on Halloween, the retro-arcade in the lobby of Carlton, and mini-golf in the Meadows to celebrate the Masters. Can this be topped? This year, that is CAB’s mission.

The biggest set of events to have spirits high for are the events of Geek Week, which takes place during September 5th to September 8th. It is a weeklong series of events tied around different fandoms that contain one or more attractions per day. Such attractions include sports such as dodgeball or volleyball, or games like Dungeons and Dragons, courtesy of ABAC’s Adventurer’s Guild, and Trivia Night from the History and Government sector.

On September 9, this is when “ThunderCon” takes place. The director of CAB, Shawn Burnette, says that it is a “multi-genre pop culture convention,” and will feature “vendors, artists, panels from ABAC staff, and a celebrity voice-actor.”

The best part about all of it, though, is that it is free. In addition to this, everything in the Stallion Shop gets a 20% discount during this time for those that are wanting to spend money on ABAC merchandise.

Some events are returning from last year. For early this semester, there is the Town and Gown on August 14, Club Rush on the 21, and the Bainbridge Blast on the 24. All of these have CAB at the center of organization and fun.

Other returning events from last year are the ones such as Bears-To-Build for Valentine’s Day, Chicken and Waffles near the end of the semesters, Fresh Check Day to raise awareness to mental health, and much more. These are staples in ABAC’s activities, and they will undoubtedly be as great and fun as they were previously.

For those that are already a member of CAB, if you are interested in running for the chairs of the Executive Board of 2023-2024, the application has been sent in an Outlook email with the deadline being August 25.

CAB’s eyes are set on trying to increase the amount of fun that last year contained, because that’s the entire purpose. Burnette and the rest of the crew are eager to lay out the rug for fun to be had. It’s worth noting that CAB is also still a club that students can join, so for those that are interested in direct involvement with their campus, see them at Club Rush or contact any of the members directly.
