Housing is taking many precautions when it comes to COVID-19. Since the pandemic began, housing has had a set guideline of rules and regulations in order to keep everyone safe. ABAC’s top priority is to make sure that ABAC is the safest possible environment for students to study and for employees to work and for the college’s principal mission, to educate students.
In order for ABAC to continue having in person classes, all students, employees and visitors are strongly encouraged to exercise personal responsibility and to practice the following guidelines: wash hands regularly with soap and water, use hand sanitizer, cover your mouth when coughing or sneezing, practice social distancing of 6 feet and avoid prolonged contact with others when unable to social distance. This means try to avoid using elevators, automobiles, golf carts and multi-person offices.
Wearing masks reduces the spread of COVID-19 by asymptomatic carriers. ABAC requires that students, faculty, staff and visitors wear masks when unable to social distance. ABAC Housing has adjusted all of their spaces to comply with social distancing guidelines. ABAC utilizes stringent occupancy restrictions on all public spaces and adjusted programming to comply with all guidelines.
Anyone exposed to someone with Covid-19 will be asked to quarantine for 14 days from the last date of exposure. Any student that has been exposed and is in close contact with someone that has tested positive for Covid-19 will need to quarantine for 14 days.
Once exposure has occurred, the student would need to complete the ABAC self-report form found at ABAC’s website. Once completed, the student will be contacted by the ABAC Health Center and notified of the date they can return to campus/class.
The ABAC Health Center will notify instructors that the student will be out for a period of time. Those that are in quarantine should stay home, separate themselves from others, monitor their health, and follow directions from their local health officials.
Students that test positive will be asked to return home. In a situation where the student cannot quarantine at home, ABAC Housing will place the student in a designated isolation room for their quarantine period. Students who must stay in their dorm for quarantine will have meals prepared and dropped off at their dorm room door for them.
If a student must stay in their dorm room for quarantine, they must stay in their room, not walk around campus or go to class, and must not have anyone in their room or travel to others’ rooms. If the student has special circumstances that will prevent them from following the above rules, they must contact Resident Life staff to notify them.
If a student tests positive for Covid-19, they will need to isolate for 10 days from the onset of their symptoms. If they do not have symptoms and test positive, they will need to isolate for 10 days from the date of their test.
In the case where a student remains asymptomatic during their quarantine, there would be no need for Covid-19 testing. Should a student become symptomatic during their quarantine period, they should be tested.
During quarantine, if a student is tested and receives a negative test result, they would still need to quarantine for the entire 14-day period due to their exposure.
All roommates or those in close contact with the student will also need to be tested. Students will have meals brought to them, by request, for each day they are in isolation.
