The Fillies Softball team won GCAA State Championship in spring 2019 and went to the national junior college tournament for the first time in over 15 years. The team will receive their rings on Saturday, Sept. 28 and the ABAC community is invited to attend.
The former head coach of the softball team, Donna Campbell will field a team of alumni who played for the team when Campbell was the coach. Campbell’s team will play a game of fastpitch against head coach Jennifer Walls’ current softball team.
“It will be fun to see who from the alumni still has it, and it will be funny to see who might not,” said Walls. “It’s great because we are really excited that Coach Campbell was able to contact some of her former players to be part of the day.”
Following the end of the seven-inning game, the ring ceremony will take place on the ABAC softball field. The team will receive their state championship rings after playing one of the most successful seasons since the arrival of Walls.
Saturday will be a special day because Walls has invited the 10 players who are currently in high school that have committed early to playing softball at ABAC. The past, present and future team will be present to celebrate the success the Fillies worked hard for.
At the end of the ring ceremony, the softball team will have a BBQ cookout as a fundraiser for the upcoming season. The team will sell $10 plates of BBQ and all the money raised from the cookout will go to ensuring the softball team has the resources necessary to have a strong season like last year.
The alumni game will start at 12 p.m. at the ABAC softball field. Directly after the game will be the ring ceremony and plates of BBQ will begin being sold after the conclusion of the ceremony.
