“We’re in the end game now,” a quote said in Marvel’s “Infinity War” by Dr. Stephen Strange. This quote was uttered at the end of the 2018’s most successful movie, which gave fans a clue to what the next Avengers movie would be called. “Avengers Endgame” was released just last Thursday, April 25, and fans were nervous, anxious and excited to watch the movie that would end a true era.
For the past 11 years, Marvel has released 22 movies that were known as “The Infinity Saga.” Starting in 2008 with “Iron Man,” each year, a different Marvel movie was released that led up to the chilling finale that was “Endgame.” Each movie either introduced a new member of the Avengers or introduced one of the six infinity stones. “Endgame” was a way to conclude what happened throughout the past decade.
“Endgame” was the perfect combination of grief, hilarity and content as it picked up where “Infinity War” left off. The grief comes with the fatal rumors of who will meet their end in “Endgame.” There were many times where fans on social media continued to cast worry about whether their favorite Avenger superhero would perish under the hands of the ultimate villain, Thanos, portrayed by Josh Brolin.
All eyes are on the original Avengers: Tony Stark/Iron Man, portrayed by Robert Downey, Jr.; Steve Rogers/Captain America, portrayed by Chris Evans; Bruce Banner/Hulk, portrayed by Mark Ruffalo; Thor, portrayed by Chris Hemsworth; Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, portrayed by Scarlett Johansson; and Clint Barton/Hawkeye, portrayed by Jeremy Renner. Others were also nervous and worried about losing some of the new Avengers that joined the team, including James Rhodes/War Machine, portrayed by Don Cheadle; Scott Lang/Ant-Man, portrayed by Paul Rudd; and Rocket, portrayed by Bradley Cooper, all who were lucky enough to escape Thanos’ devastating snap in the previous movies. Unfortunately, the rumors that floated around about someone dying are true but to find out who it is, you have to watch the movie.
The entire movie is exactly 3 hours and 1 minute long. Although that seems excessive to someone who isn’t a diehard Marvel fan, the movie is slightly longwinded and drawn out in multiple parts. What saved it from being too drawn out was the comical relief that was given to the fans. This comical relief was needed as the movie keeps the fans in suspense the entire 3 hours.
Marvel is known for creating jokes that will either be clever or go over someone’s head. In the movie, many new jokes are created, but what made the movie even more clever is how it incorporated some of the jokes from “Infinity War.” One, in particular, is how Rocket, a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy who is clearly a raccoon, is called a rabbit multiple times by everyone around him.
One aspect of the movie that was well thought out and executed is how each character’s past are incorporated somehow throughout the movie. One, in particular, that won’t spoil any of the movie is how Black Widow is finally reunited with her longtime partner Hawkeye and they are able to relieve their past missions together.
Although a classic, yet legendary era has come to an end, the finale exceeds expectations of any major Marvel fan. The Avengers assembled for the last time during this iconic movie but Marvel will continue to create movies about the new members, including “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” which is scheduled to release on July 2, 2019.
