On Oct. 2nd, ABAC hosted their second event for the First Tuesday Series. The event was “All That Jazz” and featured ABAC’s former jazz studies professor, Dr. Thomas Heflin. Heflin performed various songs with his band members: Dave Potter on drums, Mason Margut on piano and Tommy Sauter on bass. With Heflin performing on trumpet, the group performed a number of arrangements that varied from classics and contemporary jazz tunes and brought a new definition to the term ‘jazz standard.’

Heflin taught at ABAC for four years, from 2014 to 2018. He was known for conducting the award-winning ABAC Jazz Ensemble for all four years. Heflin is now serving as the Assistant Professor of Jazz Brass at the Miles Davis Jazz Studies Program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

The next event on the First Tuesday Series will be “Music Teachers Rock,” which will feature music educators from the area. The event will be Nov. 6.
